Horizon Europe
Horizon Europe, the most ambitious research and innovation programme in the world, has replaced EU Framework programme Horizon 2020. The name symbolises continuity and evolution, as well as change. This the new EU research and innovation programme will have a budget of around €95.5 billion for 2021-2027.
Horizon Europe will be structured around three pillars with different clusters and a series of cross-disciplinary initiatives. Pillar 1 – “Excellence Science” consists of the European Research Council (ERC), Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MCSA) and Research Infrastructures; Pillar 2 “Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness” consists of six thematic clusters which will support transnational consortia through strategic work programmes and calls; Pillar 3 consists of a new independent organisation, the European Innovation Council, European innovation ecosystems, and European Insitute of Innovation and Technology. It will also cover the Widening Participation and Strengthening the European Research Area part of the programme as well as relevant activities in other pillars.
